The 2007
IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation,
sponsored by the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society, will be held
June 10-15 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, Honolulu, HI, USA. Please
visit us on our booth #26 to see the latest versions of µWave Wizard and
EADS Germany's PROTHEUS.
The latest release of µWave Wizard, version 6.5 will be shown in particular for
the analysis and optimisation of antennas. The new features like adaptive frequency
interpolation and consideration of losses by an extended mode matching method which
have been presented at the IMS are most efficient to achieve a quick turnaround
for the designs.
The latest release of Protheus which includes the traditional Multilevel
Fast Multipole Acceleration (MLFMA) for the Method of Moments allows the
full-wave EM analysis of structures with dimensions of several wavelengths.
However, in cases where a lot of unknowns are clustered in domains being small
compared to the wavelength the conventional
MLFMA acceleration cannot be applied due to the low frequency break down of
the method. In most cases, these problems had to be solved using traditional
direct solution procedures. With the latest release of the Protheus/MLFMA
module this restriction has now been removed.
The new hybrid MLFMA/LF-FIPWA (Low Frequency Fast Inhomogeneous Plane Wave Algorithm)
extends the applicability of the acceleration technique also to low frequencies.
This new technique allows for the accelerated solution of structures
having some 100.000 unknowns within fractions of wavelength using only
a single PC or workstation.

International Microwave Symposium 2007 (IMS 2007)
will be held in Honolulu,
Hawaii, Sunday, June 3 through Friday, June 8, 2007 as the centerpiece of Microwave Week
2007. The industry exhibition will take place from June 5 through June 7 at the Hawaii

Wizard and EADS Germany's Protheus. The latest release of µWave Wizard, version 6.5, has
a new, more clearly arranged and easier to use GUI. The calculation of losses arising from
finite wall conductivity is now available for most Mode-Matching and 2D FEM structures.
Adaptive frequency selection in combination with a rational function interpolation technique
yields a significant reduction of simulation times. Also a series of new, flexible elements
including various types of dielectric resonators and full 3D visualization of electro-magnetic
fields is introduced.

Mician will show the first release of EADS Germany's EM code
Protheus
a simulation suite consisting of modern, fast and efficient tools to
handle complex real world problems like antenna positioning on
electrically large platforms, Radar Cross Section (RCS) predictions of
complex objects, and solution of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
tasks. Protheus consists of several tools, most prominent the
Multilevel Fast Multipole Algorithm (MLFMA) accelerated Method of
Moments, which will be offered as the first module.

Dielectric resonator library introduced with version 5.5
Mician has added a new dielectric resonator library to µWave Wizard.
The existing BCMM method for the fast and accurate computation of integrated waveguide
cavity structures with inherent milling radii was extended to include an arbitrarily
located partial height dielectric post inside these cavities. This yields an universal approch for rapid
development and low cost production of dielectric resonator filters.

Field computation
Version 5.2 has been released. New with this version is the calculation and
visualisation of the electric and magnetic field strength inside parts of the
circuits, e.g. like coupling irises in diplexers and coaxial probes in combline
filters. This feature allows the consideration of high-power demands in modern
satellite equipment.

Optimisation on the antenna pattern
Version 5.1 has been released. New with version 5.1 is the optimisation of the
antenna pattern.
This brand new feature of µWave Wizard is the consequent
enhancement of µWave Wizard's powerful mode matching engine in combination
with the fast and accurate antenna plug-in based on the spherical wave expansion.
Typical goals for antennas like directivity, co- and crosspolarisation, etc.
can be specified very easily by predefined VBA macros. Furthermore, equations
and functions on the antenna pattern as part of the goal functions are allowed.
For typical applications like corrugated horn antennas, additional mode-matching
elements are included, which allow the definition of the geometry using only very
few input parameters. Finally, a simultaneous optimisation on the antenna pattern
as well on the transmission and reflection coefficients of complex networks is
a typical task for µWave Wizard.

Mician signs agreement with CST
Mician has signed an agreement with CST enabling the further expansion and
interoperability of links between CST's design environment and other EDA
simulation solutions. Mician's µWave Wizard(tm) will be embedded in CST DESIGN
STUDIO(tm)'s (CST DS) framework allowing the use of mode matching techniques
in combination with full 3D and circuit simulation.

Arbitrarily shaped waveguide ports are supported with version 5.0
Mician has added a new kind of connection to the µWave Wizard. The previous versions have
been limited by typical rectangular, circular or coaxial waveguide housing ports. New with
version 5.0 is the multimodal connection of FEM/FEM waveguide ports without using additonal
intermediate waveguides. Arbitrarily shaped waveguide ports (e.g. double ridged or elliptic)
are now supported as connection between elements and circuits. With this new type of
connection between the elements several new elements are available with version 5.0.
Some examples of this new class are polarizers in circular
or coaxial waveguide housing.

Mician has added a DXF and STL output format to the
general 3D visualisation tool (NTL-3D) of µWave Wizard. The new shaped
cavity elements spres_1, spres_2, spres_3 and spres_4 from the BCMM library
are available too.

General 3D visualisation tool
Mician has added a general 3D visualisation tool
(NTL-3D) to the µWave Wizard. This new tool has been presented for the first
time at the EuMW in London. NTL-3D interprets and displays any µWave Wizard
ntl-file without any limitations regarding structure and number of ports. The
new tool allows rotation, moving and scaling of any element and circuit with
their given properties. Different view output modes are selectable: wire
frame, hidden surface, hidden surface with edges, transparent, transparent
with edges and animation.
